Feed Weather
The Short Version
- Create an account (if you have not) and sign in.
- Open My Weather Stations and add a station: choose how it sends readings, give it a name, and say whether it belongs to one of your ADS-B feeders or stands alone.
- The page then shows your private upload address and the exact settings to type into your gateway or script. Readings appear within a minute or two.
- When you are happy with it, tick Show this station publicly. Until then only you can see it.
How It Works
Your station sends the same readings it already sends to Ecowitt, Weather Underground or your own software to an address on this site that only you know. The site keeps the latest reading, a history for the charts and a daily summary, and shows the station on the Weather pages and on the home and live maps. Pushing is the first choice: nothing about your account with any company is shared, and nothing breaks if that company changes its service.
Your location privacy works as it does for ADS-B feeders: General rounds the position to about 6 miles, Exact shows the spot, Hidden lists the station without drawing it. A weather station that belongs to a feeder uses that feeder's station ID, location and privacy, so one station record can both hear aircraft and measure weather.
Ecowitt Gateway or Console
Works with the GW1000, GW1100, GW2000, WH2650, WS3910 and other Ecowitt gateways and consoles.
- On My Weather Stations, add a station and choose Ecowitt gateway or console (custom server).
- In the Ecowitt app (WS View Plus) open your device, Weather Services, then Customized. Switch it on and choose the Ecowitt protocol (not Wunderground).
- Enter the Server / IP arksignal.allisononline.org, the Path and the Port 80 shown on your station's page, and an upload interval of 60 seconds.
These devices can only send plain http, not https, so the upload address is a plain-http one on port 80.
Weather Underground Format (Ambient, Davis and Others)
Many stations and gateways can send to a custom server in the Weather Underground format: Ambient Weather consoles, Davis WeatherLink Console, Ecowitt in its Wunderground mode, and others. Choose Weather Underground upload format when you add the station and enter the server, path and port it shows. The station ID and key the device asks for are ignored: the secret is in the path.
Only the format is used. No data from Weather Underground is read or shown here.
Home Assistant (Easy Install)
Home Assistant has an integration for almost every weather station (Tempest, Ecowitt, Ambient, Davis, Netatmo and more). The ArkSignal Weather integration reads the station Home Assistant already has and sends it to ArkSignal. You pick the device; it finds the right sensors by itself.
- On My Weather Stations, add a station and choose Home Assistant, a Tempest bridge or a script. Copy its upload address.
- In Home Assistant open HACS, Custom repositories, add https://github.com/mallison01/arksignal-homeassistant as an Integration, then download ArkSignal Weather and restart Home Assistant. HACS tells you when a new version is out.
- Go to Settings, Devices & services, Add integration, ArkSignal Weather. Paste the upload address, choose your weather station's device, check the sensors it found, and finish.
It sends a reading every minute with each value's own unit, so metric or imperial sensors both work. You can change the sensors or the interval later from the integration's Configure button.
Tempest Stations
Tempest is the weather station made by WeatherFlow. Your hub already announces its readings on your own network (a local broadcast that needs no internet service). ArkSignal uses exactly that, so nothing about your Tempest account is shared and no cloud service is read. Two ways:
- You use Home Assistant: add Home Assistant's WeatherFlow integration (it finds the hub by itself), then the ArkSignal Weather integration above and choose the Tempest device.
- You do not: run the small ArkSignal Tempest bridge on any always-on computer in the same network (a Raspberry Pi, a NAS, a PC): get it from https://github.com/mallison01/arksignal-homeassistant/tree/main/bridge. One line: python3 arksignal_tempest_bridge.py --url YOUR-UPLOAD-ADDRESS --elevation-ft 300, or the Docker file it comes with.
Why not read the Tempest cloud directly? WeatherFlow's rules allow its cloud data only for the owner's personal use; showing members' stations on a shared site needs a subscription or an agreement with them. If that changes, a cloud option can be added.
A Script or Anything Else (JSON)
Anything that can send a web request can feed the network. Post a JSON object to your station's upload address. Either put the unit in each value, or name them in the units you have (temp_c, wind_kph, pressure_hpa, rain_day_mm and so on; your station's page lists them):
curl -X POST http://arksignal.allisononline.org/wx/relay/YOUR-TOKEN -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
-d '{"temperature": {"value": 21.5, "unit": "°C"}, "humidity": {"value": 55, "unit": "%"}, "pressure": {"value": 1013, "unit": "hPa"}, "wind_speed": {"value": 12, "unit": "km/h"}}'
Home Assistant without the integration works the same way with a rest_command. The older form with the unit in the name keeps working.
Reading Your Ecowitt.net Account
If you would rather not change your gateway, you can give the site your own Ecowitt.net application key, API key and the device's MAC address and it reads your station about every 5 minutes. Choose Ecowitt.net account when you add the station. Your keys are stored sealed and used only to read your station; you can delete the station and its keys at any time.
Pages for a station read this way credit Ecowitt (or WeatherFlow for Tempest) and link back.
Your Data and Privacy
- Nothing is public until you tick Show this station publicly. You can switch that off, or delete the station and all its readings, at any time.
- Public pages show readings, charts, your station name, hardware and the owner name or call sign you have chosen. The position follows your privacy choice.
- The upload address is a secret. If it leaks, make a new one on your station's page and the old one stops working at once.
